Catherine has 30 years of multi-sector global experience in the Public and Private Sector, covering various disciplines including risk management, internal and external auditing, financial management and governance. Her working experience has included working with international organizations such Deloitte, KPMG, Barclays Bank Plc, Anglo-American Plc Group and most recently in the international development sector.
Her recent work includes working with a multi-lateral organization, leading global efforts to manage the risk management and regulatory governance pillars. This has also included, working closely with the second and third lines of defense and spearheading efforts for continuous efforts in the enhancement of internal governance, risk management, ethics and compliance.
Catherine’s work experience has given her the opportunity to provide thought leadership and the ability to influence desired outcomes, demonstrating deep expertise in all aspects of governance and accountability. This has included the provision of technical and advisory support to Governance Boards, Senior Management Teams and Country Office Heads and to support the achievement of organizational strategic and operational objectives.
Catherine is a Chartered and Certified Accountant and is a certified ISO 31000 Senior Lead Risk Manager.
Banja has over 20 years of financial markets experience in global financial institutions in Zambia with more than half in executive leadership roles spanning across corporate and investment Banking. She was also the 1st female financial markets treasurer in the Zambian Financial markets. As Founder and Executive Director of Simpact Foundation she is passionate about using her vast financial markets experience to make financial markets more inclusive in order to achieve sustainable social impact for children and women living in poverty.
Having worked for Barclays Bank Zambia and Citi Zambia, Banja’s notable achievements has included tangible strategic organisation transformation and was instrumental in financial markets landmark transactions in excess of US$7bn in value. Her contributions to the Zambian financial markets has included landmark digital financial innovations that contributed towards increased financial inclusion especially for the most excluded.
Banja has also held various board positions which includes: World Vision Zambia board member and chairperson of the local resource mobilisation board committee. She is currently chairperson of the CEC Pension Trust Fund and member of the Board of Trustees of the Central bank defined contribution pension fund. She was also member of the Board of trustees of Barclays Bank Zambia Pension fund and was Finance and Investments committee chairperson. Banja is a graduate of the University of London with a MSc Finance and Financial Law. She also holds a Bachelors of Business Administration from the Copperbelt University and Bachelors of Law degree from the University of London.
Brian is a seasoned corporate & investment banker with 22years experience in the Financial sector in Central and Eastern Africa with International Financial Institutions. He is currently serving as the Corporate Banking Director for Absa Bank Zambia Plc.
Prior to his current role, he spent 2 years in Tanzania as the Corporate Banking Director for Absa Bank Tanzania Limited. Previously to this role Brian held the position of Head of Global Clients for 4 years under Barclays Bank Zambia Plc. Brian’s work experience also includes corporate credit and retail banking
Brian has played an instrumental role in the execution of key landmark financial transactions in the various key economic sectors that has contributed towards financial markets development.
He is a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) and holds an MBA from Herriot Watt University Edinburgh Business School, UK. He is also a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK).
Risper is a seasoned finance, risk and audit professional with 22years experience in financial services, manufacturing and consultancy services. She is currently serving as the Group Chief Finance Officer for East African Breweries Plc (EABL), a subsidiary of the global drinks giant, Diageo. Risper is a Board member of EABL, a company listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange.
Prior to her current role, she held various senior roles in Barclays Africa Group (now Absa). She joined Barclays in 2008 as the Regional Director for Internal Audit (Barclays East and West Africa) based in Kenya before being promoted to Managing Director for Internal Audit (Barclays Africa) based in Johannesburg. In 2015, she joined Barclays Bank Zambia as Finance and Strategy Director, a role she held up to January 2020 when she joined Diageo.
Her early career was spent in KPMG Kenya where she was involved in a wide variety of financial services audits, internal audit and consultancy. Her work experience has seen her cover a number of countries in Africa extensively while also being part of global leadership teams.
She holds a Bcomm (Accounting) from the University of Nairobi and is a member of ICPAK. She is also a Certified Internal Auditor.
Theo Nsunge – Board Member
Theo has 19 years of Banking experience, with exposure in Financial and Management Accounts, Bank operations and Corporate and investments Banking. He is currently the Head of Transactional Banking for Absa Bank PLC and previously held the role of Lead Data and Analytics for Corporate and Investment Banking rest of Africa excluding South Africa at the Regional office based in Johannesburg.
Theo has contributed significantly to the automation of Business Intelligence and analytics with the automation of key data points with his vast knowledge in big data methodologies which has continued to support the Zambia and other African businesses in the Absa franchise. His current contribution is growing the transactional banking business whilst driving the digital agenda in ensuring collection and payments are done electronically, seamlessly and efficiently.
He is a Chartered Account, a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accounts (CIMA) and holds the designation of ACMA and CGMA. In addition, he holds a Diploma in Business Administration accredited to the Association of Business Executives (ABE) UK.
